 Success STORIES

Here at the KVHS we love hearing from our many shelter graduates. The photos and stories featured here are tributes to pets everywhere who were given a second chance at happiness. Some of these animals encountered many bumps in the road, but all are now safe, happy, and secure in their new loving forever homes.

If you have a success story you would like to share, please submit a short narrative and a photo of your animal, and we will try to include your pet on our website or in our quarterly newsletter. These are just a few of the wonderful stories we receive.

 KoKo

Koko was adopted from the Connor Animal Shelter in early summer 1996, she would have been 14 on April 1, 2010 (her arbitrary birthday). When we first saw her she was a little more than a puppy, with a big head and small ears (think Yoda from Star Wars) attached to a brindle- marked, brown coat with striking white markings; a combination of ugly duckling and swan. Eventually she grew into a mature fine-looking adult with a deep chest, narrow hips with muscular thighs. She seemed to have boundless energy and could run for hours on end.

Koko loved toys, especially the big soft mushy ones that squeaked. She loved people, though her wagging whip-saw tail made petting her a challenge at times. She also loved swimming, though she didn't discover this until she was around seven years old when she accidentally fell into a small stream and had to swim to get out of it. Koko passed away in December 2009.

Our experience with Koko was very rewarding....she was a good loving dog and a fine friend.
