Duncan

Roofus and Duncan
"In 2008, I lost my dog and came to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society to
find a new friend. When I walked in and saw the cages of cats, I was
immediately drawn to this large, adult cat by the name of Duncan. I was told
he was the longest resident at the time After holding him and a love scratch
later, I was filling out the adoption papers. I knew that with a little
patience, I could turn Duncan's life around. When we first brought him home,
he was very skittish and wasn't very friendly. He would hide and only come
out from under my bed to eat or explore if he became curious. It took almost
a year but Duncan finally started to become comfortable in my house.
He would go up and down the stairs between the first floor and the second
floor, he would approach me instead of me approaching him and he would love
to play with his toys (which he has a huge basket of). It has now been five
years and Duncan is a completely different cat. He still loves to play, he
will approach family and close friends, he lets me pick him up and give
him kisses his nose and he will even eat treats out of my hand. Not to
mention, my family got another puppy later in 2008 so Duncan and Roofus have
grown up together and are the best of friends, practically like brothers. I
can't thank the Kennebec Valley Humane Society enough for finding my best
friend and taking such good care of him before I could!"
